Why the Nike Dunk is A True Classic
The Nike Dunk is an all-time classic, one of the most iconic shoes in the history of sneaker culture. To do this day it remains one of Nike's most famous sillouhettes and one of my favourite shoes. The Dunk was irst released in 1985, designed by Peter Moore as a basketball shoe, it has evolved into a cultural phenomenon that has been embraced by athletes, skates and sneaker enthusiasts. The Dunk was actually designed by taking design elements from Nike's Terminator, Legend and Air Force 1 shoes.
Despite being taken over by other Nike models in the 90's the Dunk found a new home in streetwear and skateboarding culture which lead to Nike releasing the Nike SB that had a padded tongue and collar as well as enhanced materials. Both the original Dunk and the Nike SB Dunk both featured a large Nike swoosh on both sides, a separate toe and eyelet panels as well as multiple panels down the side and a flat sole.
The sole itself has a traction pattern made for pivoting which is why it fits both basketball and skateboarding equally well. The Dunk Low is actually a variant on the Dunk High which was the original design and is often used in collaboriations with artists.
